Relevant Coursework:
Biology, Ecology, General Genetics, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, General Entomology, General Plant pathology, Biological Control, Pesticides Science, Landscape Pest Management, Insect Symbiosis, Social Insects
Work Experience:
Undergraduate Assistant, Museum of Biological Diversity, The Ohio State University, January 2023 – Present. Supervisor: Dr. Luciana Musetti, Curator of Insects.
Worked in the C. A. Triplehorn Insect Collection assisting with cataloging needs under the direction of the curatorial technician to enhance records of beetles from various submission data sets. Primarily involved in the beetle curation project, this work will focus on upgrading the housing, inventory and database of extensive beetle collection.
Research Program Assistant, Wu Lab, Department of Entomology, The Ohio State University, November 2023 – Present. Primary Investigator: Dr. Shaohui Wu.
Assisted graduate students with their research on the impact of the annual bluegrass weevil on turfgrass, including sampling and pesticide testing on golf courses, and culturing the weevil in the laboratory. Also have experience in controlling turfgrass pests such as ants and white grubs and maintaining greenhouse plants.
Internships:
Research Program Intern, Wu Lab, Department of Entomology, The Ohio State University, September 2024 – December 2024. Advisor: Dr. Shaohui Wu.
Impact of pesticides on beneficial microorganisms in soil, assessing the impact of pesticide applications on microorganisms especially beneficial nematodes and insecticidal fungi in the soil profile.
Membership:
Chrysalis Undergraduate Club (2022–Present)
Poster Presentation:
Pesticides Dilemma: Case Study of Neonicotinoids, Undergraduate Capstone Poster Forum, April 2025, Kottman Hall, College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, The Ohio State University
My experience at Ohio State:
During my three years at The Ohio State University, I completed my major in entomology and my minor in plant pathology. I am very happy that the Department of Entomology offers a wide range of entomology courses. In addition to general entomology and pest management courses, there are many courses related to insect behavior and ecology. Among them, the courses on social insect and insect symbiosis left a deep impression on me, which gave me a deeper understanding of the social behavior and evolution of insects. In addition, insect symbiosis also gave me a new understanding of the interaction between insects, plants, fungi and other organisms. These courses have greatly trained my ability to find literature, interpret papers, and summarize new research topics.
In terms of internships and research, I am also grateful to the Entomology Department for providing me with many opportunities. In my second semester at Ohio State, I started working part-time as an undergraduate assistant at the insect collection of the Museum of Biological Diversity. In my second year, I started working as an undergraduate assistant in Dr. Wu's lab, while also doing my internship and independent research. These work and internship experiences allowed me to understand the research work of graduate students earlier and exercised my practical ability.
In addition, as an international student studying in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, I have fully experienced the diversity and inclusiveness of this college.
