Graduate research fellow Yvan Delgado de la Flor’s research was featured in the Spring 2015 issue of Qué Pasa, OSU? This magazine highlights the contributions of the Latino community here at OSU. This particular issue is focused on individuals working in science fields.
Six graduate students from the Entomology Department traveled to Lexington KY in October to attend the Ohio Valley Entomological Association’s Annual Forum. Molly Dieterich, MaLisa Spring, Doug Sponsler, Chris Riley, Katie Todd, and Yvan Delgado de la Flor all presented as part of the student paper competition. Two OSU students won awards at the event: Katie Todd won first place and MaLisa Spring received second place in the MS student competition.
Chris Riley was elected President-Elect of OVEA. He will organize the 2017 meeting in Ohio. The 2016 conference will be hosted by Purdue University.

Ohio State recently joined The Ohio Academy of Science as an institutional member. Ohio State faculty, staff and students are now able to join the academy at no cost.
Laurel Haavik, a postdoc in the Herms Lab, studies growth and physiology of ash trees that may or may not be resistant to emerald ash borer.
After reflecting on her academic career and goals, she now believes that the tenure system is outdated and in need of serious revision. She wonders if others feel the same way.
Effective September 1, 2015, Professor Norman F. Johnson was appointed as The Martha N. and John C. Moser Chair in Arthropod Systematics and Biological Diversity in the Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology and Department of Entomology at The Ohio State University, where Norm is the Curator of the C.A. Triplehorn Insect Collection in the Museum of Biological Diversity. Norm received his Ph.D. from Cornell University and has been a faculty member at The Ohio State University since 1981.
The ALE LAB congratulates Molly Dieterich who was just awarded a grant from the Ceres Trust for Organic Research! Her proposal is titled: "Identification of Arthropod Predators of Cucumber Beetles (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) in Cucurbit Agroecosystems"
