A new study conducted by Ohio State University and the Ohio Department of Health has found that blacklegged ticks and Lyme disease are now an emerging public health concern in Ohio, as tick populations carrying the disease have become established, particularly in the eastern half of the state.

Thousands of seeds have been planted, and amateur scientists across the state are stepping into their laboratories, also known as their backyards.
About 2,400 sunflowers, tomatoes, cucumbers and banana peppers were set to sprout in this study on pollination.

4-H youth in Lucas County learned about pollinators and bee habitat this summer by planting bee-friendly plants and creating nesting habitat at the Toledo Botanical Garden and the Lucas County fairgrounds. The project was funded in part by a grant from the OSU Department of Entomology, awarded to eight 4-H projects across the state.

Dan Herms, professor and chair in CFAES's Department of Entomology, is this year's recipient of the International Society of Arboriculture’s (ISA) R.W. Harris Author's Citation.
The R.W. Harris Author's Citation is given to authors for sustained excellence in the publication of timely information in the field of arboriculture. ISA President Terrence Flanagan recognized Herms at a ceremony on Aug. 4 in Toronto as part of the ISA Annual Conference and Trade Show Aug. 3-7.

Ohio continues to be one of the states most affected by bedbug infestations in the U.S. To remind Ohioans that they shouldn't let their guard down when it comes to preventing and dealing with this troublesome pest, Ohio State has put together three public service announcements, funded by a grant from OSU Extension's Integrated Pest Management Program.
