EGSA received both of the CFAES Student Organization Awards for which they applied: The Community Engagement Award, and the Outstanding New Activity Award. The Community Engagement award highlighted work by our graduate students to connect with the public around such opportunities as the COSI Annual Science Festival, the new Bugmobile, and the United Titanium Bug Zoo. The Outstanding New Activity award application focused on the Halloween Open House in Wooster last October, but also outlined a variety of other new engagement opportunities that our graduate student community has initiated. EGSA’s current president Erick Martinez Rodriguez states “On behalf of EGSA we are grateful that our efforts are recognized, and we want to thank you very much for your support throughout the whole year. Hopefully many more accomplishments will come.”
The Student Organization awards were presented at the CFAES Olympics Award Ceremony on Friday, April 14, 2023. CFAES Student Organization Excellence Awards honor extraordinary contributions to campus life in the College, the University, the surrounding community or their profession. The Community Engagement Award is presented to a student organization that demonstrates the importance of serving the broader campus or external community through hands-on service activities, philanthropic or fundraising events, or other community-related pursuits. The Outstanding New Activity Award recognizes new and innovative activities performed by the student organizations of the College that (a) promote the field of food, agricultural, or environmental sciences, (b) benefit the organization, its members, students, and staff of the College, and (c) that accomplishes worthwhile goals of the organization.
