We are pleased to announce the reappointment of Dr. Jamie Strange as Professor and Chair of the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) Department of Entomology effective October 1, 2023 through June 30, 2027. This position is subject to OAA and Board of Trustees approval.
Dr. Strange earned his B.S. in Agricultural Science from Pennsylvania State University, and his M.S. and Ph.D.in Entomology from Washington State University. Prior to his first term as Chair of the CFAES Department of Entomology, Dr. Strange served at the USDA-ARS Pollinating Insect Research Unit in Logan, Utah, and as an adjunct faculty member in Utah State University’s Biology Department. He also served as a postdoctoral research associate in Cornell University’s Department of Entomology, research assistant in Washington State University’s Department of Entomology, entomology instructor at Lewis-Clark State College in Idaho, and agricultural science research technician with USDA-ARS in Washington state.
Dr. Jamie Strange has studied bee health and genetics for over 20 years with research focused on the aspects of management, conservation, and biology of native North American bumble bees. Projects include understanding how environmental change (climate change, urbanization, agricultural management practices) impacts the health of these important pollinators.
During his second term as Chair of Entomology, Dr. Strange will:
- Continue strategically planning for growth in the department to support students and faculty.
- Continue to actively engage in succession planning by identifying possible future leaders in the department and connecting them with appropriate resources and opportunities.
- Continue to engage in the broader career pathways work of the college and how Entomology can play an important role in this work.
- Work toward solidifying the OSU Extension mission for the department.
