Areas of expertise:

Biology and control of termites, bed bugs, and other household and structural insect pests

Other information:
  • Urban Entomologist
  • Ph.D. (1987), University of Arizona
  • My OSU extension (70%) and research (30%) program focuses on household and structural arthropod pests. My extension approach is to provide research-based information on urban pests to the public and pest management industry. I emphasize integrated pest management strategies. I have been significantly involved in outreach efforts regarding the issue of bed bugs in Ohio in part by participating as a member of the Joint Bed Bug Task Force in Cincinnati/Hamilton County and by being on the steering committee of the Central Ohio Bed Bug Task Force in Columbus/Franklin County. My research program focuses on both basic and applied aspects of household and structural insect pests. I am conducting extensive laboratory and field research on termite baits and soil termiticides. I most recently have begun laboratory research on bed bugs. Most of my non-work activities revolve around my two young boys. Personal interests include gardening, hiking, and white-water canoeing/rafting.
