The Woody Plant Laboratory in the Department of Entomology annually conducts multiple experiments to improve practices for controlling damaging insect and mite pests of trees and shrubs. Application procedures, timing and experimental and registered pesticides are evaluated for efficacy, recognizing that there is zero tolerance for some arthropod pests in nursery production. Products and procedures are also developed for use in Christmas tree plantations and in commercial and homeowner settings.
